Frankly Speaking about Cancer: What do I Tell the Kids?

A cancer diagnosis impacts families in many ways. Even if a child has not been told about a loved one’s diagnosis, they can sense when something is wrong. Not telling a child what the family is facing leaves them to imagine situations that are often worse than things really are. This free workshop focuses on how to carry out conversations about cancer diagnosis and treatment with kids and teens. Anyone impacted by cancer and their loved ones are invited to join us as we learn what kids know about cancer at different ages, how to talk about cancer, tips for answering common questions, ways to help your child, and additional resources. Dinner will be provided.

Featured speaker: Nora Bosslet, LMSW, LCSW. Nora manages the Children, Teen, and Family programs at Cancer Support Community Iowa and NW Illinois. Nora has previous experience working in both hospice and school settings.

Anyone impacted by cancer is welcome to attend this no cost workshop. This program is offered both in-person and virtually on Zoom. Whichever format you prefer, RSVP is required. Register for this workshop either online or by calling (563)-326-7504.

This program is made possible by the Rotary Club of Rock Island.
